Rushi Modular Headpiece System in Pink

$700

Rushi Modular Headpiece System is named after Liu Rushi (1618–1664, China) was a poet, an independent spirit, known as one of the "Eight Beauties of Qinhuai", a rebel who did not conform to the rules of her time. Sold to a brothel by her family at an early age, Liu Rushi had a hard life, but her intelligence and talent for writing poetry quickly made her popular with highly ranked politicians, poets and even nobles. In 1640 Liu embarked on a campaign to marry the respected scholar Qian Qianyi, who was 36 years her senior. Dressed in men's clothing, she accosted Qian and requested his opinion on one of her poems. This move got his attention, which led to the two of them developing a deep friendship. She eventually revealed her true gender to Qian and they were married soon after, which broke many societal rules in China at the time. Liu's affinity for cross-dressing persisted after they were married; she regularly wore men's clothing whilst in public. This affectation earned her the nickname rushi, "Confucian Gentleman", which also puns on her chosen name Rushi.
